Are you sure you know Biofuels?

Êtes vous sûr de bien connaître les Biocarburants ?

I could not have picked a better moment to talk about biofuels ... The Motor Show taking place right now Porte de Versailles, the issues of environmentally friendly fuels and non-polluting cars are more than news. We hear daily of new non-polluting fuel, but are you sure I understand what it is?

To be honest I do not know much until the writing of this note. I write this note may be a bit early because I go to the auto show in the evening. Anyway, I noticed that there are now two schools:

  • Those who want to change habits by creating hybrid vehicles (fueled with compressed air for example)
  • Those who rely on the existing to improve without upsetting provided (by improving fuel)

The 2nd option seems much more realistic for the future, I do not see consumers give up their car for a nice pot of yoghurt compressed air must be recharged every 200 km ...

What is a biofuel? (Wikipedia)

A biofuels (or agrofuels) is a fuel produced from organic materials and non-renewable fossil fuels. This production can be made from a variety of techniques: oil production, alcohol by fermentation of sugar or starch hydrolysis, gaseous fuels produced from biomass plant or animal (hydrogen or methane) or solid fuels such as charcoal.

Take for example the diester, French biodiesel. It is adding Huite vegetable mixture of diesel to meet EU targets to fight against global warming.

Why Diester is ecological:

  1. The production of Diester does not deforestation: the diester is made from rapeseed and sunflower (it grows like a weed so no worries for the environment)
  2. Diester production does not raise the price of cereals is not normally made from cereals (but from oilseeds such as rapeseed and sunflower)
  3. With Diester, surface energy and food does not compete on a current oilseed production by 2.1 million hectares, 500,000 are sufficient to meet the needs of French food oils.
  4. Diester produce, but also produce food: for each liter of Diester ® developed, it simultaneously produces 1.5 kg of vegetable protein (see video)

  • Hello Roman
For my part, I think biofuels are a total heresy. With population pressure rising, and rising energy prices which mechanically conditioned to higher prices of agro-food use of agricultural resources that could feed people in South shortage for comfort countries Rich seems to be meaningless and risky. The balance between production and needs is weak enough (can be seen every natural disaster) that soils (beets, rapeseed, sunflower, sugar, erzats, ...) are not used for purposes other than food. Especially that solutions exist: innovate and invest in renewable energy (wind, biomass, solar, ...) or nuclear (physical solutions such as nuclear fission - which would largely solve the problem of waste) -- to achieve a healthy balance and reduce tensions on energy markets (related to the anticipated shortage of fossil resources and increasing demand), and the agricultural market (due to speculation caused by biofuels by me) .
In short, this is my opinion on the issue.

  • Ok this article concerns only the French production but do not forget the global production that grows as destroying the forest to be replaced by "forest" of palm oil which encroach on land that could be exploited for the Food ...
Also agriculture is practiced for this type of product is extensive, so it pollutes the soil and depletes! Their solution is: it pollutes the air less (but continue to destroy the land!)
You really have to wake up and stop with quick fixes! He'll have to change our behavior if we are to save this land. But good will is already dead when the planet will die then ...

  • I do not know much biofuel, but actually, they seem to be responsible for deforestation in poor countries, who prefer to destroy their forests to be replaced by fields ... The debate was initiated in all cases ...
