Do more with the utility, I am separated from my Macbook. With the approaching back, I plan to resume my laptop. I was really happy with my Macbook but the idea of having a more compact tool and provided a longer range I really liked. That is why I am considering buying a mini PC (Asus Eee PC type)
From there, I'm back in the traditional "market research" to know what exists, what characteristics and at what price. I pre-selected two models: the Asus Eee PC 901 (last line) and the MSI Wind's most serious competitor.
The important aspects to me are (in order): The autonomy, comfort working (screen size, keyboard) and performance.
Autonomy is for me the most important criterion because it is a camera mobile, if it is to hunt sockets every hour ... no thank you. This little game is the Eee PC 901, which won handily with autonomy (exaggerated) of 4:55! (1:46 cons for the MSI Wind). SVM source
Comfort side, although the keyboards of the two machines are comparable, the MSI Wind has a screen a little larger: 10 "cons 9" for Eee PC 901. Note that despite the size and autonomy of different weight machines 2 is similar at around 1.13 kilograms.
In terms of performance, it really kiff kiff. 1.6Ghz, 1GB DDR2 RAM and a graphics chipset equivalent. The only difference (in size) is located in storage since the Eee PC 901 is equipped with a 12GB SSD storage, while the MSI Wind loads a true 80GB hard disk. For example, a file copy will take an average of 33s on the MSI Wind 1min27 cons on the Eee PC 901 ...

Orange offers the Medion Akoya (same as MSI Wind) with a package Business Everywhere. The price is 249 € and the package of 10 € / month with a commitment of 24 months. Ie: 249 + (10 × 24) = 489, for you to judge if it's worth it. Have one of these laptops without connection internet is like a bicycle without wheels: p. You can see also offers SFR with the Eee PC.
Then Eee PC 901 or MSI Wind?

Moving from Mac OS X windows you fear that this is difficult?
otherwise eeePC.
and besides, the file copy takes 33s .. How big is it?
And you can not speak of the advantage of SSD ... he maximum shock, and I think that is fundamental to such a computer.
Romain on September 1
@ Roman: I do not say you can install Mac OSX on the MSI Wind
.
You're absolutely right for the hard disk. However, the hard drives are in my opinion strong enough today. (or not: p)
Roman, September 1
Mac OSX on the wind? tiger then?!
With the OSx86 project? or directly with the Mac OSX?
You interest me much then I thought to buy a macbook but it's out of my budget so to walk ...

Already for the ability, attention to the eeepc ssd is segmented, 4GB for the system remains the datas, so you can make a race of space for your OS and no options in bios to cancel service ca.
For autonomy, if I am not mistaken there is a battery 6 cell that comes out to the msi, price = 70 €
Regarding the internet connection ... if you're in paris, terminals paris wifi ca depanne well
and if not me I account her more.

I find nothing odd to 10 Euros / month at best in SFR with 19 Euros / month for less than 50 MB / month and I think that the super majority will be at a traffic between 500 MB and 1GB we climb away at 54 Euro / month.
So if you can enlighten us on your prospect is really orange in the jungle to capture something?
Roman, September 2
@ Francis: Yeah, totally agree.

+1 For the eeepc. Me and my 701 are inseparable. ^ ^
The 901 was perfect for me but there was not when I bought it.
If you're not obliged to pass under XP! you can sit under linux

And (sorry double post) it seems that the image is distorted .. (probably due to a resolution not suitable ..) then it seems to me a little bit, most windows protrude from the screen .. Yet it is the 10 "

Hello Roman
Like you, I am separated from my laptop to the arrival of the ultra compact machines at low prices. I bought myself a nice imac alu of occasions with the money earned by selling my laptop (it's still more comfortable), which allowed me to move me to finally put Mac OS and I account to buy a "netbook" (since that's how they're called now) to take my classes. However, I am not at all selected the same as you: the Acer Aspire is really top it out very soon a version with the 6 cell battery that lasts 7am! With 120GB and 1.6 GHz, a small weight and small size. The must-have!
Alex, September 2
I was talking about the acer aspire one, the same model as above, but with a battery 6 cells:

He qd meme a pretty face from the eepc
Roman, September 2
@ Alex: Acer's low-end plastic and SAV virtually nonexistent. beside that, this PC is actually attractive, you just become aware of two bad traits that I just mentioned, and weigh the pros and cons
Alex, September 3
I agree with you on plastics acer on older models but I took it in his hands at Darty and air rather well and finished strong. On the VAS, I do not know the acer but is often the first store from which you bought it that repairs and secondly it rarely breaks the first year except sometimes the hard drive but it costs nothing and c It is easy to change. I'm just waiting to see the price of the 6 cell version, if more than 400 €, here is the expensive netbook ...
Roman, September 3
@ Alex, he is guaranteed a year manufacturer?
It is possible that you repatriate the vendor from whom you bought it but there are great chances that it sends to ACER, and then the wait ...

Is it possible to have the details of this "In other words: 249 + (10 × 24) = 489" sorry Insite heavily because that price has to have the 3G + 1 computer for 2 years I think we would be thousands of to make it right?
very, on September 8
I installed OS X on my Wind since July, and it runs like clockwork
If you want advice on how to install that is not so simple as they say (and many surprises are in turn) is pleased
There is a page on my blog that details all proposed additions and French (the keylayout "Special Fr MSI Wind, etc.)
Wind is clearly above the lot, but it absolutely must buy 6 cell battery, if autonomy is medium (2:30)

The keyboard of the MSI Wind100 and eeePC 901 have nothing in common. The Wind wins hands down.
The Wind's keyboard is perfectly feasible and very close in size to that of a laptop "normal." In comparison, one of my MacBookPro is 27.2 x 10.4 cm, that of the Wind is 25 x 9.5 cm. No retraction of the fingers or hand positioning disabling.
The keyboard of the eeePC 901 is impractical. As far as the eeePC 701 (it is the same).
I had 2 machines in the main (eeePC 901 and Wind100) and tests in typing, are instructive.
The way to counter this problem is to get the version of the eeePC 901 "packaged" in the carcass of the eeePC 1000 (without its screen size which is in 8.9 '). I think this version is called eeePC 904. His interest? The "real" keyboard offers the "wide" carcass eeePC 1000. But the weight is heavier than the 901 and as the Wind and its footprint a bit more important, obviously.
In practice, it is unnecessary to say how you can congratulate you for taking the Wind version to keep her carpal tunnel, his joints and his composure in good working condition.
For those who prefer the Asus, there are versions of the eeePC 1000 that will ship a "big" HD. For those who want to stay in small format, 901 Linux will be bundled with 20GB SSD while the 901 XP is actually shipped with 12 GB SSD.
Regarding autonomy, do not wait 4 hours 55 promised by Asus. The eeePC 900 were delivered with smaller batteries (4400 mAh) than the eeePC 701 (5200 mAh and 4400 mAh)! The reason? A plant components have burned. All manufacturers of laptops are housed in the same boat.
Before the metal of the buyers, Asus decided to deliver 5800 mAh (not the promised 6 cell) and then retracts ... and eventually reverse its decision. So far I have seen in France as in eeePC 4800 mAh best short, even a bit more burnées, it is the 4 cell.
The 901 is promised in 6 cell. I do not think simply.
With the Wind is set, these are 2200 mAh, mouarf o) But as it is already in his shop to clone the Medion 349 euros and 2 years warranty (yesssss), whereas the eeePC is still vague and announced at 449 euros, I tell myself that all things considered, the stories between size / weight of carcasses, screen size, keyboard size, long warranty and battery model, I'll take the Medion 349 euro, at least I will sub for a certified third battery 6 cell.
Anyway, one way or the other, he will buy one, so ...

Otherwise a Wind 6 cells if you find one (it is not clear in the advertisements of ecommerce) or normal wind, and later the battery 6 cells. It just arrived on the shelves (80 Euros in Grosbill) and the first users are happy: between 5 and 7am autonomy after use!
